Gloria has spent time in the Dental section
getting it cleaned and organized on Friday & Saturday
ready for the Dentist to start a relief of pain clinic on Monday 30th
where she will be assisting

Hi All

The National Disaster Management Office is a very well run organized
office run by correct people from all around the world

Some of the news reports are NOT correct and they are just feeding on
the BAD information so dont worry about the care of the people as
REDCROSS UNICEF and other major orgainzation have a good hand
on the aid in this early stages

The Vanuatu Govt will in the longer term be involved , so like all media
stories take them with a grain of salt as their are some wonderful stories
of help Aid that you have helped with .

I hope we can help with the good stories

Friday 20 March 2015

Hi all ,

An update on Port Vila ,
Things here are being cleaned up fairly quickly with the trees been cleared away off the roads and power lines being lifted, also the ring road around Efate is now been fixed with about 4 bridges being temporary repaired so access to Port Vila can happen and food to be distributed to outer village from Efate and from here the smaller island very close to Efate can also get food & water to them by the little boats .

The outer Islands we ourselves haven’t been able to hear or see what is happening and I guess you would have a better view of what its like as you have TV coverage and we only have cell phones and they are still down and may be for quite awhile to these outer island. Its quite hard for us as many of our friends are on these outer Island so we are trying to get snippets of information of how thing are going.

We have got two new flat mates with us in Sutherland house its Graham & Maebry Reid from ChCh who were out at Onesua College and they decided to move back into Port Vila and give their staff house to the Principle & family who no longer have a house and were sleeping on a table as about 6 buildings are destroyed.
The People at Onesua were looking down the barrel of the cyclone as it came towards them about 20km out at sea so the college took a big hit and had no protection as it very close to the sea and one house was swamped by waves as it was coming in off the sea
The 15 winter men who we looked after at the Wairau Valley lost nearly every house at Tekara as they live on the beach only 5 min walk from Onesua

We have had a couple of families move into the other 2 units of Sutherland house as they have lost roofs.

The Australian Army and other Organization , unicef and Redcross ,are all here and are waiting to have all the assessments done for the outer Island and returned so the correct places get the correct help. Something similar to what happened in the ChCh earthquakes. Mean while the clean up continues.

Its good to have the Reid’s here to share and to support each other
As time moves on things will pick up and work to support others will start so at present we will be put into teams like Finance, Logistic, church support teams, NGO liaison team, Overseas supporting church teams, volunteer Coordination.
These teams will help as Aid comes in and we are asked to help anywhere
So at present the major Relief Organizations like Army, Red cross, Unicef are in full force but we know it will be our turn soon to help

Both Gloria & I are OK and we thank you for your support prayers and wonderful words of encouragement so we hope this keep you informed

Love Neville & Gloria
