I went to Tanna on Wednesday to check on
a project we started in November 2017.
The Project is the William Grey Memorial Church project
at Waisisi , its on the East coast

This is the airport at Tanna

This is our truck which we used to go part way to Waisisi.
we came from Lenakel which is a small town on the West coast .

We got within about 2 km from Waisisi, then we had to walk.
Cyclone Hula caused a river to run
down the road and these are the photos of its damage

This little girl also walked with us down the road
but she would some time disappear
as she would go down into the cuttings
as she crossed from one side to the other.

Here is the new Church building at Waisisi
it is 20 mtrs x 10 mtrs building

This has been built by hand
their is NO electricity here in Waisisi

They have been making all their own cement blocks
all the sand and coral came from the beach and No vehicles to help out
The beach is a 15min walk down hill

Time to recover before I got to walk up the hill.

They would like to have this building completed by May
if the materials I purchase in Port Vila arrive in time

Their is a saying what goes up must come down.
but for us today we need to go Up.
This bush track leads us to another
village it's normally an hour walk, all UP HILL
which took me 1.5 hours
( I was exhausted by the end of climb)

This week for Gloria it was back to visiting the schools
And helping out in class
Monday ..... first stop was Malasi tabu  school at Freshwater
Some very excited students

They are now year 2 students and attend class upstairs

A quick visit to our old class downstairs....
this chap looks like he could be a future chief...... and was very                                                                   protective of his new class 1

Then  Wednesday I started at a new PCV  school  named Macses,  20 mins drive      away from vila. This  new school, starting out with limited resources, I took out some of my resourses and reading and maths books and we had a fun day at school.

Here is the Principle of the school Mr Jessie Talsong ....from Utas SE Ambrym
So that was a big surprise

Super happy to have a selection of books to look at

To end the week 'Happy Friday' with some reading with the after school students
and a sausage sizzle

LENDING A HELPING HAND
Life back at Seaside School
Today Gloria sweated a lot,  cleaned, dusted, swept, and rearranged things back in order at the library
It is now looking how is was set up in 2015/16.

It's  Ready..... to help the students use the Library, and get help, with some Reading recovery.

this was how I found the classroom I used in 2016,  so with a positive attitude  I got to work....

able to accommodate 12 students for reading

and sorted out the man shed ..... one happy caretaker

We received a Christmas card on Friday
from our friends in Renwick & Blenheim
It was great to receive it
We noticed it was sent 5 Dec 2017
Thanks June it arrived .... Island time

The temp is down a little bit
but the humidity is up 91%

The heavy rains are still here
today Saturday. The cyclone has gone
south but the frequent down pours continue

I was able to purchase some guttering for a water tank
for Macses School. so we still need some
rain until the tank and gutters are fitted and tank is full.

Cyclone Hola 2018
We have been given RED alert in Port Vila
so everyone must stay home

The cyclone is heading away, but history has shown
that cyclones that go down West normally
can do the biggest damage so, precautions are put in place.

We are hoping it continues to travel South
and wont turn East towards us

Rain is our only problem here in Port Vila
and some flooding
we are receiving plenty info across the radio stations.

Thursday, 8 March 2018

Two 6000ltr water tanks were purchased today for
two PCV Schools

Its a good time to fill the water tanks as its cyclone season
our 6000 ltr tank at Sutherland house is over flowing.

The shutters on Unit 1 Sutherland house were put up today
just in case Cyclone Hola (cat 3) decides
to turn East and head for Port Vila

These workers are putting new guttering on Malasi tabu School
Gloria will be upstairs helping reading recovery at this School this year
Can you see all the health and safety gear the men have!!
