Dental Outreach to South Malakula Lamap is complete.

Organised by The Butterfly Trust - Gloria PCV

A team of 4 Dentists, 1 local Nivan Nurse, and myself were on the Team
The Team was staggered over  Two weeks with Dentists staying 4 to 7 days. Gloria had travelled up in May to get the clinic ready for the upcoming Outreach. Gloria stayed 17 Days.
Lamap has an Ambulance, so here we are off to the first village for screening teeth.

Gear is unloaded and carried to the sight

The set up done by Gloria, and we are now ready for the Tooth checks to begin

                                                                 Another screening site

Gloria spent most of her time living at the Hospital sharing a house
with Nurse Elian a local Nivan.

Breakfast buddies at Nurse Elian's cookhouse
Susan beside me is a Peace Corp Volunteer based at Lamap for Two years.
I cheated towards the end of the outreach with this wee Gas cooker
 for warm showers

After Dinner sing along

A Dentist from Villa Central Hospital and Novo Dentist were part of the team for week Two
Everyone  enjoyed the Outreach, every thing ran smoothly,  and a lot of patients were seen and            treated, receiving Fillings and Extractions, scaling of teeth,  and fissure Sealants, who were
then seen at the Dental Clinic set up at Lamap.

Dental Instruments were sterilised using  pressure cookers  donated by Marlene from the Renwick church in Blenheim '' Many Thanks '' They worked well, and then cooked
on a wee camp cooker purchased from TheWarehouse NZ.

                                                       A GREAT TEAM EFFORT

On our Day off we got to go to a Village, to meet and spend time with local people,
sharing stories and food together

I had a really awesome time, worked hard, and together we all had one successful Outreach, helping the Communities better their Oral Health, treating alot of tooth pain, and saving many Teeth, on the School children, by finding early decay and filling teeth.
I will be back again in October for Mission Two, with a NZ team to South Malakula Outer Islands.
